Abstract

Soft tissue sarcomas (STS) are a heterogeneous group of malignant neoplasms that originate from mesenchymal tissue. Understanding the histopathological features of STS is crucial for accurate diagnosis, prognostication, and management. This study aimed to analyze the histopathological characteristics of STS based on a 5-year retrospective review of pathology reports.  A total of 250 STS cases were included in the study, with the data collected from the hospital's pathology department between January 2018 and December 2022. The histopathological features, including tumor type, grade, and other relevant parameters, were extracted and analyzed. The results showed that the most common histological subtypes were undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma (25%), liposarcoma (20%), and leiomyosarcoma (15%). The majority of the tumors were high-grade (60%), and the most frequent anatomical location was the lower extremity (45%). The study also identified specific histological patterns and immunohistochemical profiles associated with different STS subtypes. The findings of this study provide valuable insights into the histopathological landscape of STS, which can aid clinicians in making more informed decisions regarding diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis. The data may also contribute to the development of better diagnostic and prognostic tools for this complex and challenging group of tumors.
