Abstract

Anxiety is one of the most prevalent psychological issues faced by university students around the world. It affects their academic performance, personal lives, and overall mental well-being. University life brings with it several challenges, ranging from academic pressures and social expectations to personal issues like managing independence and future career uncertainties. The increasing academic demands, competitive environments, and social isolation faced by students are commonly linked to anxiety. In Pakistan, university students, especially those from rural and underdeveloped areas such as Balochistan, experience unique stressors that contribute to heightened levels of anxiety. These stressors may include poor academic preparation, limited access to resources, financial constraints, and pressure from families to succeed in their studies. The University of Loralai, located in Balochistan, serves students from various backgrounds, making it a key setting for investigating how anxiety manifests in this context. Globally, research has indicated that university students are particularly susceptible to anxiety disorders, which can hinder their academic success and personal development. However, studies focused specifically on anxiety in the Pakistani context, particularly in less developed regions, are limited. This study seeks to fill that gap by examining the prevalence of anxiety among students at the University of Loralai and exploring the various factors contributing to it.
