Abstract

Addressing the challenges facing food security is very vital to the future of Africans and Nigerians in particular. Despite the economic importance of bell pepper to the teaming populace in Nigeria, it is not devoid of postharvest losses. This study seeks to undertake a detailed assessment of the extent and cost of post-harvest losses along bell pepper value chain in Anambra State. The study will adopt a descriptive survey design and will be carried out in Anambra State in the South-Eastern part of Nigeria. The study population comprises all bell pepper entrepreneurs in the four Agricultural Zones (AZs) of the state namely Onitsha, Aguata, Awka and Anambra. Multistage, purposive and random sampling techniques will be used to select the respondents for the study. Primary data will be used for the study and will be collected using well-structured questionnaire.  The study will adopt a mixed-methods approach to gather comprehensive data on female-led ball pepper production ventures based on the objectives of the study. A conservative projection of Two million is estimated for an in-depth study. A breakthrough in this study will provide adequate information on dealing and handling post-harvest losses.
