Abstract

This comprehensive review explores the technological advancements in food supply chain management, presenting a comparative study between the United States and Africa. The global food supply chain faces numerous challenges, including demand volatility, perishability concerns, and the need for efficient and sustainable practices. This study delves into the contrasting landscapes of the U.S. and Africa, examining how each region adopts and adapts technology to address these challenges. The United States, as a developed nation, boasts an intricate and technologically sophisticated food supply chain. Advanced technologies such as blockchain, Internet of Things (IoT), and artificial intelligence are integrated to enhance transparency, traceability, and efficiency throughout the supply chain. From precision agriculture to smart logistics and distribution, the U.S. exemplifies a technology-driven approach to food supply chain management. In contrast, the African continent faces unique challenges, including infrastructural constraints, diverse agricultural practices, and the need for inclusive solutions. The study sheds light on how Africa leverages technology to overcome these challenges, showcasing innovations such as mobile-based supply chain platforms, data analytics for smallholder farmers, and blockchain for transparent transactions. By comparing the technological landscapes of the U.S. and Africa, this review identifies common trends, best practices, and region-specific innovations. Insights gained from this comparative study contribute to a holistic understanding of how technology transforms food supply chains on both global and regional scales. The findings aim to inform policymakers, industry stakeholders, and researchers, fostering cross-cultural learning and collaborative efforts to create resilient, sustainable, and technologically advanced food supply chains worldwide.
