Abstract

Proteins are highly complexed biomolecules made up of amino acids, which play very critical and vital role in living organisms. Proteins are present in most of the biological samples and their estimation is essential to understand a formulated product and to get valuable information about those biological products. The purpose of this study is to review the methods which are used to estimate the amount of total protein concentration, type of protein & for the measurement of any group of protein present in any biological sample. Most commonly used methods for determination of protein are; Kjeldhal method, Direct UV-Visible Spectroscopy, Biuret method, Bradford method, Lowery assay and Bicinchoninic acid Assay (BCA). Least commonly used assay is Quantitative amino acid analysis, which is often used in food making industries or used as a primary standard method. The main purpose of this review is to understand the different types of methods in use and some other regulatory elements are also discussed, which are the important measures for any protein against various standards.
