A study was conducted at National Agricultural Research Centre, Islamabad during 2000-01 1o 2001-02 to optimize fertilizer dose in oats for higher fodder yield under rainfed conditions. Nine different fertilizer doses were evaluated. The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design with three replications keeping plot size 3 x 6 meter. All other agronomic practices except NPK fertilizer doses were kept uniform for all treatments. The parameters studied were: plant height, number of tillers per plant. number of preen leaves per tiller, stem thickness, leaf area. green fodder yield and dry matter yield. The fertilizer dose of 100-75-0 kg per hectare produced significantly taller plants, more tillers. thicker stem. higher leaf area and proved favorable for light use efficiency and photosynthetic activity. It produced higher green fodder (76.38 y/ha) and dry matter yield {1822 t/ha). However, economic analysis revealed that fertilizer dose of 75-50-0 kg NPK per hectare was economically more appropriate than NPK dese of 100-75-0 kg. So ferritization of 75-50-0 kg NPK may be recommended for obtaining optimum production and economic return in cats under rainfed conditions of Pothwar region
