Abstract

These studies were conducted at Pulses Research Institute, AARI, Faisalabad under tunnel conditions during 2002-03 and 2003-04. Chickpea germplasm including promising varieties originating from Pulses Research Institute, Faisalabad. NIAB. Faisalabad, AZR]. Bhakkar, BARI, Chakwal and [CARDA, Syria was screened for ascochyta blight. Observations on disease incidence were recorded using international 1-9 scale. Based on the disease score the accessions/cultivars were grouped as highly resistant (disease score 1), resistant (disease score 3). moderately resistant (discase score 5), susceptible (disease score 7) and highly susceptible (disease score 9). Among, 421varieties’lines. 37 entries were found highly resistant, 79 resistant. 212 moderately resistant and 93 susceptible. The commercial varieties Punjab-91, Bittal-98, Punjab[1]2000, Balkasar-2000 and Wmhar-2000 were found resistant. Varieties Noor-91 (Kabuli) and CIM-98 were found moderate. Kark-98 and an old variety C-44 was found susceptible to ascochyta blight. The advanced lines found susceptible were (42003, 02012, 02065, 02084, 03022, 03034, 03656 (PRI). 2KCC010, 99CCOISK, 99CC0N4, 92A260, 93A127, 96A080 (AZRI) 02112, 02117, 02137, 02145, 0215 02158, 0145, 03151, 03152, 03154 and 03160 (NIAB). The susceptible check Punjab-1 sown after every two varieties as spreader was rated highly susceptible in all cases (disease score 9).
