These studies were conducted at Technology Transfer Institute (PARC, AARIL Faisalabad during the year 2003 to assess the working of two major wholesale fruit vegetable markets e Faisalabad and Rawalpindi Islamabad. The survey was restricted to two markets due to limited finance and time. The particular managerial and operational aspects along with physical facilities, trade practices, presence of public and private sector institutions were thoroughly examined. According to the plan, 30 respondents. 25 from each market, were directly interviewed for the collection of requisite data. The results indicated that infrastructure physical facilities of sample fruit and vegetable markets were generally disorganized. having poor sanitation. inadequate protection from sun. faulty water supply and unfair distribution network. Frequent traffic jams and solid waste management. poor storage facilities and inadequate supply of services. (Restaurants, place for stay rest of visiting farmers. public toilets, communication. etc. were also observed during survey. The survey further revealed that internal management of markets was ineffective. High and illegal market charges reductions, delayed payment and non-transparent market operation was reported by the respondents on the part of commission agents and market operators. It was concluded that existing system is full of imperfections. which need w be rectified in the interest of producers and consumers.
