Abstract

A study was conducted at National Agricultural Research Centre, Islamabad during 2003 1o evaluate the optimum sowing date for guar under rainfed conditions. Five planting dates at 15 days interval commencing from 6" May 10 17" June were included. The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design with three replications keeping plot size 3 x 6 meter. All other agronomic practices were kept uniform for all the treatments. The parameters determined were: plant height, green fodder yield, dry matter yield and grain yield. Data regarding plant height and green fodder yield was recorded at § percent pod formation while grain yield was taken at maturity. Significant differences were observed for plant height, green fodder, dry matter and grain yields between all sowing dates. Third sowing date (3rd June) excelled significantly in green fodder yield (75 t/ha), plant height (181.7 cm), dry matter (21.67 t/ha) and grain yield (647.7 kg/ha).
