Abstract

Effect of five sowing dates (October 15, 30, November 15, 30 and December 15) with three plant spacings (15, 22 and 30 cm) on agro-qualitative traits of sugarbeet was investigated at five different locations i.e. Gujranwala, Sheikhupura, Vehari, Rahim Yar Khan and Karor Adaptive Research Farm during 2001-2002. Both plant spacings and sowing dates affected the tuber size, tuber weight, sugar recovery and tuber yield significantly at all locations, The root yield decreased from 59.58 to 30.42 tons at Gujranwala, 6531 to 40.44 tons at Sheikhupura, 70.44 10 32 81 1ons at Vehari, 75.70 to 55.44 tons at Rahim Yar Khan and 88.47 to 55.67 tons per hectare at Karor in case sowing delayed from October 15 to December 15. A plant spacing of 22 cm produced significantly higher root yield at all sites. However, polarity and sugar recovery vaned from 11.11 to 14.55 and 8.61 to 11.57 percent, respectively and were not affected significantly by different plant spacings.
