Radio frequency based identification is currently employed for animal tracking, logistics in industries, patient tagging in hospitals and toll applications. An antenna of RFID tag needs to be robust to sustain in an open environment moreover when a UHF RFID tag antenna labelled on a conductive platform, the RF signal reflects back particularly in the existence of metallic objects. Thus, most of energy is lost due to reflection behavior, it also causes impedance mismatch and degradation in read range. A new optimized UHF RFID tag antenna design for metallic objects operating at 925MHz is proposed. Configuration of antenna design is comprised of shorted patch and electrically defected patch, employing a compact antenna profile of 0.037λ x 0.117λ x 0.0077λ. Optimization of impedance and gain is done for Monza RFID chip Read range from simulation outcomes found 1.3m in air and 1.8m on a (0.19λ x 0.19λ x 0.0092λ) mm3 a metallic sheet.
