Abstract

The current study aims at investigating the impact of direct strategies on EFL Iraqi pupil’s literacy development and finding out the development of pupil’s literacy in reading comprehension. The study is hypothesized that, there is no statically significant difference between the mean scores of the experimental group who is taught by direct strategies and the control group who is taught by conventional method in posttest literacy test. To verify the hypotheses of the study, the sample of the current study consists of (60) fourth stage pupils are chosen from AL- Hikma School for Girls in Al-Alam Town during academic year (2021-2022). Two groups are selected as a study sample, which is randomly chosen to be the experimental group and control group. Both groups have been equalized in their age and the parents’ educational achievement. The data collecting from results of the three posttests have been analyzed statistically by using t-test for two independent sample, to measure the pupil’s literacy development in posttests. The results show that there is a statistically significant difference in the mean scores of the experimental group and the control group, this indicates that direct strategies are more effective than using the conventional method for literacy development. Finally, the study ends up with some conclusions, recommendations, and suggestions for further researches.
