Religion and economy is one of the major topics in the sociology of religion. Religion has two-way interactions with the political economy. As a dependent variable, the basic question is how economic growth in a society affects religious behavior. With religion viewed as an independent variable, the central question is how the religiosity of a person or a group affects individual characteristics, such as work ethics and thereby influences economic performance. In this paper, we sketch this two-way interaction of religion with the economy by focusing on the following questions: How does religion affect an individual’s economic activities? How do societies with religious identities differ from non-religious societies in terms of economic development? How does an economic change in an individual or a society affect religious attitudes? And how do wealth and comfort change the religious tendencies of the individual and society? Is there any economic significance to religious activities? Etc.
