Abstract

The concept of falāḥ—often translated as success, prosperity, or ultimate well-being—holds a central place in Islamic thought, particularly within the Qur’ānic and Prophetic discourses. Unlike the secular notion of success, which tends to be materialistic and temporal, Qur’ānic falāḥ encompasses both worldly well-being and eternal salvation. This analytical study explores the semantic scope and contextual application of falāḥ in the Qur’ān and authentic ḥadīth literature. It investigates how the Qur’ān defines true success through the integration of moral, spiritual, and social values such as faith (īmān), righteousness (taqwā), steadfastness (ṣabr), remembrance of Allah (dhikr), and ethical behavior. The study further examines the challenges of achieving falāḥ in the context of modern life, which is increasingly shaped by individualism, consumerism, and secular ideals of success. The paper argues that a re-orientation of values toward Qur’ānic principles is not only essential for spiritual uplift but also for social harmony and personal fulfillment. By evaluating verses of the Qur’ān and relevant ḥadīth, this research highlights a comprehensive framework of Islamic success that is deeply holistic—emphasizing internal transformation over external achievement. It also discusses practical strategies for aligning modern lifestyles with Qur’ānic ideals to attain falāḥ in both worlds. The findings underscore the timeless relevance of Islamic teachings in navigating contemporary challenges and establishing a life of purpose and peace rooted in divine guidance.
