Abstract

Urbanization has been widely accepted by the world and this trend has led to an increase in population density, urban areas as well as the demand in supplies of housing, employment and education facilities. Open spaces turn into urban voids due to unutilized spaces which are produced by urban sprawl. They are these empty deserted spots, mostly in between business and residential areas, and do not serve any purpose or point. It is a hub of illegal and anti social practices which is a risk to the society in case it is not designed and used adequately. One such examples in the Peshawar city is the Hayatabad Township that has grown due to rampant road development. Hence there was a dire need to deal with the issues identified through observation, recording and investigation and to come up with recommendations in these areas where there are key stakeholders that have to be engaged. According to the literature assessment, there was a clear study method in carrying out the study. It was established that; the present forms of design leave a lot to be desired aesthetically and in context; economic advantages do exist, but they are not marketed well and are practically unnoticeable by the gains of social wellness warranting facilities and arrangements that could cater to the needs of the locals. Hence these areas need to be revisited with purposeful use through future design interventions.
