One of the most vital elements of human interaction is nonviolent communication, which fosters mutual understanding and contributes to social harmony. The Qur’ān offers profound guidance on ethical communication, particularly in Sūrat al-Ḥujurāt, where divine principles emphasize compassion, truthfulness, and respect in interpersonal discourse. This study explores the communication ethics outlined in Sūrat al-Ḥujurāt, focusing on their significance in cultivating morally grounded dialogue within both personal and societal contexts. The sūrah advises believers to verify information before dissemination, avoid ridicule and derogatory speech, and refrain from suspicion, gossip, and backbiting. It underscores the necessity of building trust and fraternity among individuals and promotes respectful dialogue, constructive engagement in foreign relations, and peaceful personal reconciliation. Moreover, Sūrat al-Ḥujurāt advocates for moderated and thoughtful speech as a means to preserve societal cohesion and resolve disputes through submission to divine wisdom.
These principles remain profoundly relevant in today’s globalized world, offering a moral framework to counter hate speech, misinformation, and political polarization. By adhering to the communication ethics prescribed in Sūrat al-Ḥujurāt, individuals and communities can foster a culture rooted in honesty, tolerance, and mutual respect. This study contends that the Qur’anic model of communication is inherently designed to promote harmony and peace, serving as a timeless and comprehensive guide for ethical interaction in contemporary society.
