Abstract

Peace and security are essential foundations of human life; without them, neither societal cohesion nor individual development can flourish. Islam, as a comprehensive and dynamic faith, places peace at the very heart of its teachings. Unlike some Western paradigms that associate peace with political compromise, Islam views peace as a divine objective rooted in justice, piety, and compassion. This study explores the core Islamic principles for establishing peace, emphasizing a strong relationship with Allah (taqwā), social justice, patience, and mutual respect. The Qur’an repeatedly affirms the sanctity of human life, and Islamic teachings uphold that conflict is permissible only in self-defense. Even during warfare, Islam prescribes ethical conduct, highlighting mercy and a constant preference for reconciliation. Drawing upon the life of the Prophet Muḥammad (peace be upon him), this study reveals how his leadership during times of political and economic instability fostered peace through just governance and economic equity. Notably, his equitable distribution of war booty and emphasis on socio-economic balance addressed the same root causes—economic disparity, injustice, and intolerance—that continue to threaten global peace today. This research critically examines Prophetic strategies in conflict resolution, social reform, and peacebuilding, offering a model that remains relevant for contemporary societies. By adopting these Prophetic principles—justice, equality, brotherhood, and compassion—the modern world can overcome divisions and work toward sustainable peace. The paper concludes that Islamic teachings, particularly those exemplified in the life of the Prophet Muḥammad (peace be upon him), present a viable framework for restoring global harmony in the face of today's complex challenges.
