Abstract

Islam is a complete code of life that provides guidance for every aspect of human existence. The Qur’ān and Sunnah offer comprehensive instructions on moral, spiritual, social, economic, and political matters. The objective of Islamic teachings is to establish a balanced and peaceful society that ensures both individual and collective welfare. Islam strictly discourages extravagance, and the Qur’ān and Sunnah contain clear instructions regarding moderation in all aspects of life, including food consumption and social customs. Ḥadīth serves as a primary source for understanding the commands of the Holy Qur’ān and implementing Islamic teachings. The science of Ḥadīth provides Muslims with detailed guidance on religious matters. This article addresses a common practice observed during wedding ceremonies—throwing dates (or similar items) among attendees. The discussion aims to analyze this practice in light of the Qur’ān and Ḥadīth to provide a clear Islamic ruling on the matter. Specifically, it explores whether throwing dates at weddings—whether held in a mosque or elsewhere—is permissible. According to Islamic jurisprudence (Fiqh), throwing dates after marriage is generally considered permissible (Mubāḥ) and even recommended (Mustaḥabb) as a gesture of joy and celebration. However, it is essential to ensure that the dates are not wasted or thrown in a manner that may cause harm or inconvenience to others.
