Abstract

Objective: To examine the effectiveness of the combination of losartan potassium and alprostadil in managing early diabetic nephropathy(DN) among patients and to determine its impact on renal function.
Method: This was a retrospective comparative study. Eighty six patients with early DN treated in Heji Hospital Affiliated to Changzhi Medical College during March 2020 to March 2023 were selected and randomly assigned into two groups: the routine group(n=43) which received alprostadil therapy, and the intervention group(n=43) which received a combination of alprostadil and losartan potassium therapy, using an electronic grouping table. Compared the clinical efficacy, inflammatory indexes, renal function, and incidence of adverse drug reactions prior to and after treatment between the two groups.
Results: The intervention group demonstrated a significantly higher clinical efficacy when compared to the routine group [97.67% vs. 86.05%, P< 0.05]. Prior to treatment, there were no considerable contrasts in levels of SCr, BUN, UP, CRP, and TNF-a between the two groups(P> 0.05). After treatment for 14 days, SCr, BUN, UP, CRP and TNF-a levels all reduced in both groups compared with those before treatment, which was more significant in the intervention group(P< 0.05). There was no meaningful contrast in the occurrence of relevant negative drug responses between the two groups during the 14 days treatment period (P > 0.05).
Conclusion: Losartan potassium combined with alprostadil in the treatment of early DN may improve renal function and inflammatory indexes in patients, with significant clinical efficacy but no increased adverse drug reactions. Moreover, it presents high safety of treatment.
