Abstract

This term paper focuses on Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulama. The scholar has explored the origin of Nadwatul Ulama. Nadwa was a group of Islamic scholars who had introduced reform in madrasas education curriculum. The scholar has explained the process of Nadwatul Ulama from traditional towards modern education. How did British missionaries affect the Muslims traditional education system? When Britain occupied United India, after that two schools of thought were developed in British India; one was the Aligarh school of thought, whose response toward modern education was friendly, while the second school of thought was Darul Uloom Deoband. Deoband opposed a modern education system, and they started the spreading of traditional education in British India. The scholar has critically analyzed the thoughts of the Aligarh and Darul Uloom Deoband. Those two institutions were divided society into two ways, while the Nadwatul Ulama association was the result of those two institutions. With the help of Maulana Shibli Nadwatul Ulama, the gap between Deoband and Aligarh was covered. Therefore, he established Al-Nadwa magazine, and English and modern education were made compulsory.
