The article evaluates the distinct methods and approaches through which Africans develop and support their comprehension of knowledge. African communitarian epistemology explores the native systems of understanding. Prior to the onset of colonialism, Africans, like any other community with a shared identity, possessed their unique means of acquiring knowledge and addressing life's challenges. Nevertheless, with the arrival of colonialism, Western-influenced ways of being began to emerge and knowledge acquisition became objectified and universalized. As a result, any type of knowledge that did not align with the western paradigm was considered illogical and unworthy of academic pursuit. Africa is a landmass with more than a billion inhabitants, yet issues of underdevelopment and poor governance are prevalent in numerous African nations. The Western imposition has damaged the African perspective and cultural legacy through racism, the slave trade, colonialism, and various Western ideologies, leading many Africans to perceive themselves in this light. The paper argues that a better decolonization of the continent can be realized through a shift in the mindset of Africans, encouraging them to value their traditional knowledge and integrate it into their political discussions. Thus, this paper advocates for a socio-cultural element in the practice of knowledge for political progress.
