Radar systems are of prime importance in many applications, from simple to complex, viz. defense, automotive, and aerospace. Traditional CW radar systems are of a simple design but suffer from some disadvantages concerning range and velocity resolution. This thesis deals with the modeling of advanced radar systems using MATLAB/Simulink: FMCW and SAR configurations. The sophisticated pulse compression and advanced signal processing filters like wavelet-based and Kalman filters in this paper have improved the target detection accuracy along with noise suppression. Simulation results indicate substantial improvements in the signal-to-noise ratio, range resolution, and target imaging capabilities when compared to traditional CW radar systems.
