Abstract

Wireless sensor network has an enormous number of small and very low power devices, which are installed in the specific field. In accordance to the field, there are lot of applications for wireless sensor network like manufacturing, end user applications, area monitoring and military applications. A partial power source is created by a number of sensor nodes connected to a wireless sensor network (WSN).
which provides information of sensed information to the Base Station that involves higher energy convention. Due to some characteristics like global addressing, data flow, redundancy and tightly closed nodes, routing is the major task in WSN. Three types of routing protocols are being introduced in WSN: location-based, data-centric, and hierarchical. We have concentrated on the WSN hierarchical routing methods in this study. Some of the hierarchical routing protocols include different types of LEACHES based and DEEC based, PEGASIS, SEP based, EESAA and TEEN based protocols. Based on energy dissipation of the hierarchical based routing protocol, throughput, time, number of alive nodes and number of dead nodes are the major focus of our research. In this article, we have presented a detailed overview of hierarchal protocols to provide a guideline to researchers for selection of any specific protocol. Furthermore, comparative analysis has been done for clear understanding of the reader. Our contribution is to compare these protocols and guide practitioners and researchers.
