Abstract

This study investigates the application of the NLP Meta-Model and the Milton Model in the public speaking of Jordan Peterson, focusing on how these models contribute to the clarity and persuasiveness of his communication. The analysis of ten selected speeches delivered by Peterson between 2015 and 2025 reveals how he employs both models to engage his audience intellectually and emotionally. The Meta-Model is primarily used to ensure precision and clarity in language, addressing deletions, generalizations, and distortions, while the Milton Model uses indirect language patterns such as mind reading, lost performatives, and modal operators to influence the audience’s subconscious and emotions. The study finds that Peterson’s communication style effectively combines the strengths of both models, balancing logical clarity with emotional engagement, thereby enhancing his ability to inform and persuade. Implications for public speakers, educators, and NLP practitioners are discussed, emphasizing the importance of combining precision and persuasion in communication. The study also acknowledges limitations related to the scope and audience impact, offering suggestions for future research in the application of NLP in public speaking.
