Abstract

The history of any literature is a vital source of its sustaining. The historians of literature not only recall the information and facts but also reinforce the literature for next generations. Dr. Jamil Jalbi is the most renowned historian, critic, researcher, linguistic, translator and editor of Urdu Literature. His history book “Tareekh-e-Adab-e-Urdu” is the real gem among these all. It is the master-piece of history of Urdu literature. It is comprised of 4 parts. He has deliberately discussed all the poets and writers of Urdu, starting from beginning of Urdu language and literature. He has also discussed the details of those Urdu poets who have also produced numerous writings in Persian. Mirza Asad Ullah Ghalib is one among those poets. Dr. Jamil Jalbi, in his “Tareekh-e-Adab-e-Urdu” has given all available facts and details about Persian writings of Mirza Asad Ullah Ghalib. Jalbi has tried to encompass all the known and unknown areas of Ghalib’s Persian poetry. He has produced the references of other books and journals to justify the greatness of Ghalib as Persian poet. He has listed Ghalib as one of great Persian poets among local great poets of Persian language through his research. All the Persian books of Ghalib; “Panj-Aahang”, “Danstanbu”, “Mehr-e-Neem Roz”, “ Kuliat-e-Nasre-e-Ghalib”, “Qat-e-Burhan”, Subd-e-Chain” are enough to justify Jalbi’s statement.
