Abstract

This study explores the technical artistry of Mustansar Hussain Tarar's novels, with a specific focus on Ae Ghazal-e-Shab (2013) and Khas o Khashak Zamanay (2010), two seminal works in Urdu literature. The analysis delves into Tarar's masterful use of narrative techniques such as flashback, flash-forward, collage, stream of consciousness, magical realism, and metafiction, which lend his works a distinctive structural and thematic depth. Ae Ghazal-e-Shab intricately weaves global politics, culture, and ideological struggles through a non-linear narrative, employing collage and stream of consciousness to connect diverse characters and settings. In contrast, Khas o Khashak Zamanay employs magical realism and intertextuality to reflect Punjab's cultural and historical landscape, creating a multi-layered narrative that blends reality with myth.
