Abstract

Dagh Dehlvi is regarded as one of the key classical poets. One of the most important aspects of his poetic excellence is that he practiced the prevalent poetic form in Urdu.  Critical analysis of his poetry brings to the fore presence of a well-connected system of ebb and flow in his poetry. In this research article, Dagh's four-line stanzas (Rubaiyaat)have been critically reviewed. In traditional Urdu poetry meter Hazaj along with twenty-four Verb-form is fixed but Dagh in his poetry has made best use of twelve only. Musicality in Dagh stanzas owes much to his systematic structure. This study will not only enhance understanding of his poetry but will also add much to his artistic excellence as a poet.
