Abstract

The present study aimed to explore the prospects and challenges of building rapport in government schools in Bagh, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). The specific objectives of the study were to assess the existing level of rapport in government schools, identify key factors contributing to its establishment, and determine the challenges faced in its development. A descriptive research design was employed for this study. The population consisted of primary schools across three constituencies of District Bagh: Sharqi, Garbi, and Wasti, with a total of 413 primary schools. A stratified random sampling technique was used to select 208 schools, representing 50% of the total population. Data were collected using two questionnaires: a five-point Likert scale questionnaire for head teachers and an open-ended questionnaire for District Education Officers and Assistant Education Officers. A total of 208 questionnaires were distributed among head teachers, with 200 valid responses collected, while 11 open-ended questionnaires were distributed to education officers, yielding 8 responses. Data were analyzed using frequency tables to examine the prospects and challenges of rapport-building in government schools. The findings revealed positive perceptions regarding school enrollment, infrastructure, and teacher quality, while also highlighting significant challenges, including staff shortages, teaching quality issues, technology integration gaps, limited community engagement, and insufficient parental involvement. The study further identified barriers to school improvement and suggested measures for enhancing rapport in government schools.
