Abstract

Tafsir Mazhari, authored by Qazi Sanaullah Panipati, is among the prominent tafsīr works in the Indian subcontinent that systematically incorporates Hadith into its exegetical framework. This paper investigates two selected verses (31–32) from Surah Ḥā-Mīm al-Sajdah (Fussilat), focusing on the authenticity and interpretive usage of related hadith narrations.
The study critically: Performs takhrīj (referencing the original sources) of hadiths cited in the tafsīr of these verses;
Analyzes their chains of transmission (isnād) and ranks according to classical hadith science;
Assesses the theological and spiritual implications of the narrations as used in the explanation of Paradise’s reception and divine hospitality;
Compares how Qazi Sanaullah harmonizes transmitted reports with Quranic expression and exegetical tradition.
The research concludes that the author demonstrates selective application of hadiths while maintaining methodological integrity. Some narrations of lesser authenticity are cautiously used within a framework of exegetical support and spiritual emphasis. This contributes to the broader understanding of how South Asian scholars integrated prophetic traditions within Qur’anic commentary.
