Abstract

This article enlighten about the weaving craft of Cholistan. In Pakistan weave in almost done in every region with thousands of different names in Cholistan. In older times mostly weaves done with the one hundred percent organic cotton and it made in basic colors of organic cotton but now a days it is available in synthetic materials and verity of colors. In this region still pit looms is used with traditional old methods. The research identifies the social acceptance of this artifacts and economic benefit for the artisan as well as the value of the handmade weave is recognizable internationally. Handmade textile weave is part of the cultural heritage of this region, but now it is vanishing due to increase in industrialization and rising demands of uniform perfection through mechanized production. There is thus a decline in the demand and acceptance of handmade crafts accompanied by apathy towards weave making as craft and its consequent significance as cultural heritage. The geographical area of the study was district Bahawalpur of Punjab, Pakistan. Qualitative research method has been used. Interview schedule was used as a tool to collect data from local artisans and their family members. It was a descriptive research study. The result indicates the preservation of the weave craft, Furthermore; there are many reasons to decline the craft of weaving.
