Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To determine the frequency of urinary tract infection and identification of causative agent after transurethral resection of prostate in patients at Institute of Kidney Diseases, Peshawar.
METHODOLOGY: This study was conducted at Department of Urology, Institute of Kidney Diseases, Hayatabad, Peshawar from the period of six months (29/1/2024 to 29/6/2024). Study design was cross sectional in which a total of 103 patients were observed. All the patients undergoing transurethral resection of prostate, with negative urine culture, in age between 45 to 70 years were included. A detailed history, physical examination; investigations including Urine R/E & Urine Culture and Ultrasound Kidney Ureter Bladder were performed and the selected patients were subjected to Operation Theatre for transurethral resection of prostate. Followed up after 24 hours, 3rd and 7th post operative day for the . Data was then entered and analyzed in statistical software (SPSS) version 23.0.
RESULTS: In this study 103 patients were observed; mean age was 60.30 years ± 6.776. The frequency of Urinary Tract Infection was 19(18%) in which 13(69%) patients had Eschericia coli, 3(16%) patients had Enterococcus, 2(12%) patients had Klebsiella, 1(3%) patient had Proteus.
