This research paper critically and analytically reviews Dr. Humaira Jalili’s edited version of Sab Ras, a renowned work by Mulla Wajhi, written in 1045 Hijri (1635 AD). Sab Ras holds a significant place in Urdu prose as a Sufi allegorical tale that explores themes of mysticism, ethics, and human emotions. Initially published by Moulvi Abdul Haq in 1932, the edition contained several editorial flaws. Dr. Jalili identified these shortcomings and conducted an extensive study, examining thirteen different manuscripts and selecting seven primary versions, with the Salar Jung Library manuscript being the most authentic due to its proximity to Wajhi’s era. She critically analyzed the language, style, and literary significance of Sab Ras, highlighting its pioneering role in Urdu prose, particularly in allegory and storytelling. Additionally, she rectified errors related to Quranic verses, Hadith, and Persian poetry. Her scholarly efforts restored the text to a more accurate and comprehensible form, making a significant contribution to Urdu research and textual editing.
