Abstract

The study examined the effect of green management practices on performance of SMEs in the hospitality industry in Delta State, Nigeria. A cross-sectional research design was adopted. However, the study targeted 30 SMEs hospitality firms from the three senatorial districts in Delta State. Data were collected through the administration of structured questionnaires. The data collected from the field survey were analyzed using inferential statistical techniques to arrive at a generalization. The study findings indicated that green procurement (ß = 0.496, P<0.05), green marketing (ß = 0.830, P<0.05) and green human resources management (ß = 0.361, P<0.05) have a positive effect on the performance of SMEs hospitality firms in Delta State, Nigeria. The study concluded that green management practices (green procurement, green marketing and green human resource management) positively influence the performance of SMEs in the hospitality industry. The study recommends that SMEs in the hospitality sector should keep channeling resources into green procurement practices, as these have proven to boost performance. This could mean partnering with eco-friendly suppliers and cutting down on waste throughout the supply chain. Additionally, it's important for these firms to showcase their sustainable practices in their marketing efforts and adopt eco-friendly branding strategies to draw in customers who care about the environment. SMEs in hospitality industry should offer more training, ensure that green HR initiatives align with broader business objectives, or rethink how these practices are implemented to make sure they truly benefit the organization’s success.
