Abstract

This study explores the concept and evidences of Dhikr (remembrance of Allah) through a critical and analytical examination of "Lum‘at al-Tanqīḥ fī Sharḥ Mishkāt al-Maṣābīḥ," the renowned commentary by Shaykh Abdul Haq Muhaddith Dehlavi. The research investigates the textual foundations and scholarly interpretations of Dhikr as presented in the context of hadith literature, focusing on the arguments and proofs provided by the commentator. By analyzing the relevant sections of "Lum‘at al-Tanqīḥ," the study highlights the theological, spiritual, and practical dimensions of Dhikr, and assesses its significance in Islamic tradition. The research also compares the commentary’s approach with other classical sources to present a comprehensive understanding of the subject. The findings demonstrate that "Lum‘at al-Tanqīḥ" offers a nuanced and authoritative perspective on the legitimacy, virtues, and methods of Dhikr, thereby contributing to the broader discourse on Islamic devotional practices. This analytical study aims to enrich contemporary scholarship by providing a detailed evaluation of the proofs and interpretations related to Dhikr in the light of a classical hadith commentary.
