Abstract

When it comes to the tradition of Western criticism, the early traces of Western criticism can be found in the ancient Greek philosophers. By the time of Plato, the early features of criticism had become quite clear. From Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Longinus, Dante, Philip Sidney to Edgar Allan Poe, Western criticism reached the heights of its peak. If Romanticism is linked to this journey of Western criticism, its beginning can be traced back to Europe in the latter half of the 18th century, where imagination was given preference over logic. The representative writers of Romanticism include Wordsworth, Keats, Byron, Shelley, Walter Scott, Goethe, Schiller, and Beethoven, among others. In fact, the scope of Romanticism is quite broad and cannot be limited.
