Abstract

This study examined the relationship between excessive screen use and its impact on emotion regulation and social impairment. A cross-sectional survey was conducted on 208 adolescents (aged 14–17) from schools and colleges in Gujranwala and Wazirabad. Data was collected using the Digital addiction scale for Teenagers (DAST), Emotional Regulation Inventory (ERI), Colombia Impairment Scale (CIS) Participants were assessed using the Data analysis using SPSS included Correlation, regression and independent sample T-Test. Findings indicate a significant correlation between screen addiction and emotional dysregulation (r=.184, p<.01) and social impairment (r=.451, p<.01). This study highlight the need for early intervention and awareness program to mitigate the psychological consequences of excessive screen use. The study aligns with previous research suggesting that excessive screen time disrupts cognitive and emotional processes. Digital platforms provide immediate gratification, reducing adolescents' ability to cope with real-life stressors effectively. Additionally, prolonged screen exposure leads to diminished face-to-face interactions, impacting social development and increasing isolation. The findings emphasize the urgent need for digital literacy programs and parental guidance to regulate screen use.
