Human dignity is a foundational principle of Islamic thought, deeply rooted in the Qur’an and Sunnah, which emphasizes the sanctity, equality, and honor of every human being. Unlike secular interpretations that often derive dignity from social constructs, Islam presents human dignity as divinely ordained, inherent, and universal, transcending race, class, and nationality. This study explores the Qur’anic concept of dignity (karāmah) and its relevance to contemporary global values such as human rights, justice, and equality. By analyzing key Qur’anic verses and classical exegetical works, the paper highlights how Islam upholds the value of humanity while promoting moral responsibility and accountability before God. It further examines the compatibility and distinctions between Islamic and Western discourses on human dignity, shedding light on the role of Islamic ethics in fostering universal peace and coexistence. The study concludes that the Islamic vision of dignity is not only timeless but also offers a holistic framework for addressing modern humanitarian and ethical challenges.
