Artificial Intelligence and Humanity: Ethical Challenges in the Light of Islamic Teachings

Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly reshaping human life by transforming industries, decision-making processes, and social interactions. While AI offers unprecedented opportunities for development, it also raises profound ethical questions concerning human dignity, privacy, accountability, and the future of work. From an Islamic perspective, technology must serve humanity without compromising moral and spiritual values. This paper examines the ethical challenges posed by AI in light of Islamic teachings, focusing on concepts such as human responsibility (taklīf), justice (‘adl), trust (amānah), and the sanctity of human dignity (karāmah). It explores the compatibility of AI with Islamic principles of knowledge (‘ilm) and innovation (ijtihād), while also addressing concerns of misuse, bias, and dehumanization. By analyzing Qur’anic guidance and Prophetic traditions, the research highlights the need for an ethical framework rooted in Islam to guide AI development and application. The study concludes that Islamic ethics can provide a balanced approach, ensuring that technological advancement aligns with spiritual, moral, and humanitarian values.
