Abstract

This research highlights the pivotal role of information technology and human resource management in promoting sustainable development of sports investment in Iraq, using Maysan Governorate as a case study. Amidst global economic, social, and technological transformations, sports tourism has emerged as a promising sector with significant economic and social returns. This necessitates a thorough analysis of the key factors influencing its sustainability, especially in regions with underutilized resources such as Maysan. The study aimed to investigate the relationship between information technology and human resource management on one side, and the sustainable development of sports tourism on the other. A descriptive-analytical correlational approach was adopted, supported by advanced statistical tools to analyze data collected through standardized questionnaires distributed among 242 experts from the Ministries of Youth and Sports, and Tourism and Antiquities. The results indicated that information technology plays a significant role in enhancing the efficiency of sports tourism operations through rapid access to information and digital management of tourism activities. Moreover, human resource management proved to have the strongest impact on sustainability by developing qualified personnel and fostering a productive work environment.The research recommends investing in digital infrastructure, advancing human capital through training and empowerment policies, and developing a national model for sustainable sports tourism that integrates technology, management, and human resources. This study presents a valuable contribution by linking modern management concepts to sustainable tourism practices within the Iraqi context.
