Abstract

Abstract | This study aimed to evaluate the effect of Moringa leaf extract supplementation, as a natural antioxidant, in complete rations based on fermented citronella waste on the content and digestibility of fiber fractions. A Completely Randomized Design was employed with five treatments and three replications. The treatments consisted of different doses of Moringa leaf extract supplementation: P0 (no extract), P1 (0.125% extract), P2 (0.25% extract), P3 (0.375% extract), and P4 (0.5% extract). Parameters measured included the content and digestibility of Acid Detergent Fiber (ADF), Neutral Detergent Fiber (NDF), cellulose, and hemicellulose. The results demonstrated that increasing doses of Moringa leaf extract had no significant effect (P > 0.05) on the fiber fraction content; however, it significantly influenced (P < 0.01) their digestibility. The average NDF content ranged from 59.56% to 61.59%, ADF from 33.27% to 34.54%, cellulose from 29.93% to 32.08%, and hemicellulose from 26.85% to 28.32%. Further analysis revealed that the digestibility of NDF, ADF, cellulose, and hemicellulose in P1 (0.125%) was significantly higher than in the other treatments. Higher doses of Moringa leaf extract tended to reduce digestibility, possibly due to secondary metabolites in the extract.
