Abstract

Shelter is not only a basic human right but an essential requirement for all economic activity. It is the starting point for a person to organise his/her actions, stabilise his/her mind and undertake plans and programmes for doing something meaningful. Even simple housing for the homeless who live in shacks, made of thatch and leaves or tin roofed huts, increase the productivity of the inmates several-fold. But during the last three decades housing conditions for a vast majority of people have deteriorated in urban centres of Pakistan, mainly because of population explosion and rural-tourban migration.
