The supply of medicines in Pakistan remains a matter of concern for the public healthcare system in Pakistan. The increase in usage and supply of counterfeit drugs has become a threat for the citizens of the country. This research investigates the situation of spurious drugs, the underlying influences behind its increase and the response of the healthcare system in Pakistan. This study identifies the themes of drug inspection regime, interventions under the drug control regime, outsourcing models in inspections regime, barcoding and 2D matrix system and the revamping of drug testing laboratories. It has been identified that there is a dire need for structural changes to develop its roots. The failure to completely implement The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan Act 2012 is resulting in a disconnect, making licensing difficult, price management of drugs more intangible and monitoring more complicated.
