Abstract

Introduction: Diabetic Nephropathy is one of the most important complications in people with long standing diabetes Mellitus that can lead to chronic renal failure however it’s important to detect microalbuminuria, an early manifestation of nephropathy, so that timely treatment can prevent complications and progression towards overt diabetic nephropathy.\nMethodology: It was a cross sectional study done in Department of Medicine, POF Hospital, Wah Cantt from 01-02-2021 to 31-07-2021 to establish the frequency of microalbuminuria in patients with type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.\nResults: Our study results showed that mean urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio was 32.1±26.1 mg/g in the study population. Microalbuminuria was present in 31.2% (n=72/231) subjects and was found in a higher proportion of patients who had longer duration of disease (P=0.001) and poor glycemic control.\nConclusions: Our study results revealed that a significant number of patients with type 2 diabetes had microalbuminuria (31.2% ), which was higher in patients with longer duration of diabetes with poorly controlled blood sugars.
