The aim of the present study was to investigate the action of susceptible and resistant nucleoprotein vaccine of Biomphalaria alexandrina on lipid peroxide and certain antioxidant defense system in the liver and serum of mice after Schistosoma mansoni infection. The vaccination schedule consisted of a subcutaneous injection of 50 g protein of each antigen followed by another inoculation 15 days later. The data showed that lipid peroxide, Xanthin Oxidase OX, fructoseamine, serum alfa-fetoprotein AFP, total serum immunoglobin E IgE and tumor necrosis factor-alfa TNF- were significantly increased while glutathione GSH, Vitamin C, E and the other antioxidant enzymes glutathione reductase, superoxide dismutase and catalase showed significant reduction after infection. Both susceptible and resistant vaccine treatment ameliorate oxidative stress of Schistosoma mansoni effect through improvement of all the previous parameters. The results indicated that oxidative stress due to Schistosoma mansoni infection was ameliorated by susceptible and resistant nucleotide vaccines of Biomphalaria alexandrina snail with more regards to the vaccine of susceptible snails.
