Abstract

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is an endocrinal disorder that is very common and it affects up to 10% of at reproductive age. Lean PCOS is a subtype characterized by a normal BMI but with similar metabolic abnormalities to obese PCOS. The main objective of this research was to ascertain the prevalence of lean PCOS and to understand their relationship with lipid profiles. For this study, 60 females with PCOS participated. Their BMIs were calculated and those with normal or low BMI went through lipid profile tests to understand relationship of lean PCOS with lipid profiles. A brief discussion was held keeping parameters of both phases in mind that included age, weight, height, BMI, HDL, LDL, VLDL TGL, Cholesterol and total lipids.  After calculating BMIs of all participants, 9 out of 60 participants were suffering from lean PCOS that made 15% of participants. The study's findings demonstrated that 7 out of 9 females (77%) had high TGL levels, 3 out of 9 females were having boarder line HDL while 1 of them had high HDL. Cholesterol and VLDL were high in 4 females. Thus, it was concluded that although small ratio of females had Lean PCOS but the category do exist in the population studied. Most importantly, the females (subject) had a deep relation with lipid profile that affected TGL levels also with altered cholesterol and VLDL levels.
