Abstract

Dr. Tamara Sonn intellectual work presents Islam in its original and positive form in Western academic circles. This article analyzes Dr. Tamara Sonn’s approach to understanding Islam, its major intellectual trends and its relationship to modernity. Dr. Tamara Sonn sees Islam as a comprehensive, dynamic and rational movement based on the principles of justice, benevolence, and human dignity. Her approach is a beautiful blend of moderation and modernism that emphasizes understanding Islamic texts in their historical context and in accordance with the demands of the present era. Her work promotes interfaith dialogue and refutes anti-Islamic propaganda in the West on academic grounds. Nevertheless, some of her modernist views have also been criticized by traditional scholars. Overall, her work not only contributes to presenting a correct concept of Islam in the West, but also encourages Muslim youth to remain committed to their faith.
