Abstract

Small and Medium Enterprises are more vulnerable during times of crisis, especially when the market is turbulent, which in turn hinders their ability to respond. On the other hand, a turbulent market creates an opportunity for learning and creativity for the SME's. In such an environment, it appears even more relevant for SMEs to consider knowledge management capabilities. Due to this, it is important to have an in-depth understanding of knowledge management processes and open innovation with the role of environmental turbulence. Therefore, this article conducts a systematic literature review of knowledge management processes and open innovation in the context of environmental turbulence. This article covers an in-depth review of 50 articles from the top leading journals that have been published during the period from 2007 to 2025. This article provides an overview of the evolution of knowledge management and innovation processes in the context of a turbulent environment, the evolution of theory, and the current state of the literature. This article also concludes the future areas of research.
