Abstract

AbstractObjective: To identify the preventable causes of fetal death and to analyze the maternal circumstancesrelated to fetal death with particular regard to clinical presentations, fetal, and maternal difficulties.Material and Methods: This study was carried out at Ali Fatima Hospital Lahore It is a retrospective 1yearstudy from July 2023 till June 2024. This study examined intrauterine fetal death and related maternal problemsretrospectively, focusing on a particular center. Expectant mothers visiting regular hospital prenatal clinicswere included in study group. Over a period of 1 year data was collected from 930 participants. Results: Our results recorded that out of 930 cases 16 were positive for IUFD. Highest percentage wasreported in the age group of 36-40 years age group. Factors leading to intrauterine fetal deaths reported werepreeclampsia, Placental abruption, gestational diabetes, Pregnancy induced hypertension, thyroid disorder, and ruptured uterus. Conclusion: IUFD is significantly related to a preventable risk factor such as hypertension, diabetes, infections, and inadequate antenatal care, all amplified in a setting of poverty and restricted access to healthcare. Withspecific emphasis on reducing IUFD rates and improving maternal and fetal outcomes, maternal education, antenatal service enhancement, and early detection of high-risk pregnancies can be considered for timelyreferral to higher centers in resource-poor settings. Consequences for maternal health care initiatives andthorough investigation of intrauterine fetal death events can control this issue. Keywords: Intrauterine fetal death, Risk factors, OutcomeHow to cite: Iqbal S, Sadiq N, Rajpoot NN, Parveen F, Ahmed S, Ahmed U.
