Abstract

This study examined the current state of soil fertility and its influence on the productivity of date palms (Phoenix dactylifera L.)in the Khairpur, Sindh, Pakistan, a region widely recognized for its date production. Soil samples were obtained from ten key agricultural sites and assessed for critical physicochemical attributes, including pH, electrical conductivity (EC), organic matter levels, and concentrations of primary macronutrients: nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K). The analysis revealed notable disparities in soil composition across the study area. Locations with balanced pH and sufficient nutrient content confirmed vigorous plant development and higher fruit output. In contrast, soils with elevated salinity and low organic matter content were associated with visible stress symptoms, such as chlorosis and reduced productivity. These outcomes emphasize the necessity of strategic soil management practices, especially in arid and semi-arid climates, to maintain and improve date palm cultivation, especially in arid and semiarid climates. This study recommends the integration of organic inputs and salinity control measures to rehabilitate soil conditions and enhance agricultural efficiency. By indicating the soil factors most dangerous to crop success, this investigation offers practical management for farmers, agricultural specialists, and decision makers aiming to improve date palm yields in Khairpur and similar ecological settings.
