Use of IoT objects in the life of common people are increasing day by day but on the same pace, the security concerns to protect the communication and safeguarding the privacy of users is becoming the goal for security experts in such networks. IoT objects are inherently constrained devices having constraints of limited compute and power, so application of comprehensive security mechanisms is quite difficult. RPL being the routing protocol working on the control plane of network layer and responsible for routing of low power and lossy network traffic, has several inherent features of security for defense against potential attacks. The subject paper discusses the specific security mechanisms of RPL and potential threats in context of  RPL based networks.
